De Tropen is located in the monumental building of KIT Royal Tropical Institute, and can be reached by two different entrances:

Entrance Mauritskade 64

Turn left after entering and follow the green line down the hall. After the door with our logo you have reached the cafe!

Entrance Linnaeusstraat 2/Oosterpark

You can also enter our cafe from our terrace. This is easily done when you approach the building from the Oosterpark or the Linnaeusstraat. Just walk into the KIT Courtyard, up the stairs following the signs and you will have reached our terrace!

The Tropen: The location for every event

Parties, receptions, events, meet-ups, dinners, galas, lunches or drinks, you name it, it is possible.


The Tropen can accommodate up to 350 people for a standing reception or 100 for a sit-down dinner. 
Right outside the café is our beautiful terrace with a view of the Oosterpark. This is the ideal place for a summer barbecue or even an intimate winter barbecue with a heated terrace and fire pits. The terrace has room for a 200 person standing reception and can be rented in combination with the café. 

Smaller groups are also welcome at The Tropen for lunch, drinks or dinner, for these events, we reserve a portion of the café or terrace for the desired number of guests.
